The Sundre Farmers' Market recently wrapped up a successful season that saw an increase in the number of merchants.

“It was a very positive year,” said Karen Campbell, the market's manager.

“We had more vendors than we've had in several years.”

Numerous vendors were committed to attending weekly or as often as possible, and new merchants were also contacting her throughout the season to find out more about the market and get involved, she said.

The weekly turnout of patrons that includes residents and visitors was also amazing to see, with the first 15 to 20 minutes of each two-hour-plus market generally being the most intense, she said.

“It was very busy — it was even packed at times.”

Campbell said she was pleased with the market's turnout as well as the support from the community and weekend residents.

With the holidays already around the corner, she has already begun to plan and prepare for the upcoming Christmas markets in November and December. The first takes place on Sunday, Nov. 13, while the second will be held Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Sundre Community Centre. Both events run from noon to 4 p.m. Anyone who is interested in finding out more information, including setting up a table, can contact Campbell at 403-638-1586.

The Sundre Farmers' Market is supported and sponsored by the Sundre and District Agricultural Society.

“It meets a need in the community for people who desire fresh produce and handcrafted items,” said Campbell when asked why local markets are important, adding there are also plenty of other products such as home-baked treats for people to peruse as well.

Christmas is still several months away, but that time will slip quickly by so remember to check out either of the upcoming holiday markets — or both — to see what you might find for the loved ones on your list. Campbell expressed appreciation for everyone's ongoing support throughout the regular season and said she's looking forward to seeing people at the Christmas markets.
