The Sundre Farmers’ Market, which features a wide variety of vendors selling unique crafts and delicious produce as well as other treats, recently started up again for another season. The weekly market is held Fridays from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Sundre Curling Rink and continues until September.

The weekly Sundre Farmers' Market got off to a good start this season.

Although the seasonal market that is held every Friday evening until September at the curling rink generally does not really pick up until July and August, its opening day coincided with the May long weekend, when about 400 people came through in the span of more than two hours.

Organizer Karen Campbell told the Round Up during the May 26 market that the first day on May 19 was a bigger start to the season than average.

Additionally, there are more than a dozen new local as well as regional vendors offering a wide variety of excellent quality products including artisan crafts, fresh produce and homemade goods, she said.

Although located inside the Sundre Curling Rink, the market nevertheless boasts a sort of open-market atmosphere. Also, a removable ramp built towards the end of last season has improved accessibility for the community, she said.

"We needed a safer entrance" for baby strollers as well as people with walkers or wheelchairs, she said.

"We want to make it as comfortable and nice for seniors as possible."

Aside from offering the opportunity to check out the variety of vendors, the market also provides a chance to simply catch up and visit with friends and neighbours, she said.

"We appreciate all the people who come out to look around and walk about and enjoy the market."
