Sundre Golf Club hosts inaugural Burden Bearers fundraiser

Non-profit organization endeavours to provide counselling services to residents in Mountain View and Clearwater counties regardless of their financial situation

SUNDRE – A non-profit organization that provides counselling services to people throughout the region held an inaugural fundraising tournament at the Sundre Golf Club.

The friendly game of best ball was held held Aug. 3 at the Sundre Golf Club and organized by Burden Bearers Counselling, which provides services throughout both Clearwater and Mountain View counties to everyone regardless of their financial situation.

Mari Lee Ayers, tournament director and counsellor, said 23 golfers came out to form a total of six teams, and added she hopes the event will become annual.

After expenses, she said the tournament raised approximately $3,500.

“For our first year, that’s pretty good,” she said, hopeful to beat that amount next year with a goal of raising between $5,000 to $10,000.

The organization first launched in 1991 and its annual banquet in Sundre is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 3.
