SUNDRE - For three consecutive days recently, the Sundre area has broken high temperature records as a heat wave in the area begins to break later on in the week.
According to Environment Canada, records in the Sundre area were broken Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Most recently on Sunday, temperatures at the Sundre Airport reached 32.1 C.
That’s a new record for July 21, the agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993.
The old record of 31.2 was set in 2008.
Temperatures at the airport on Saturday, July 20 rose to 29.0 C
That’s a new record for the date, the agency noted.
The previous record high for the area on July 20 was 28.3 C set in 2007.
On the Friday, temperatures reached 31.9 C, also a record temperature for the area on that date.
A heat warning continues to be in effect for Tuesday for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds – Sundre area.
“Cooler temperatures are expected for northern Alberta on Wednesday. Hot conditions may persist through much of the week for some parts of southern Alberta,” the July 23 warning stated.
In the Sundre area, Wednesday’s high is expected to be 32 C, cooling down on Thursday with a high of 19 expected. Friday and Saturday’s highs are forecasted as 21 C with Sunday and Monday’s high expected to be 26 C.
