SUNDRE - Police have concluded their investigation into the homicide death of a woman found in her vehicle in the parking lot of a Sundre business on Oct. 6, RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said Monday.
“There won’t be any further updates on this case,” Slaney told the Albertan. “There is nothing else for us to do with regards to this.”
The woman, who has not been named, was found deceased shortly after 2 p.m. A short time later police said her death was a homicide.
The following day a male suspect was found deceased in a vehicle outside Sundre.
“The cause of death of the male is still being investigated, but at this time, RCMP are not seeking any further suspects in the homicide of the female. There is no risk to the public,” she said Oct. 8.
The Albertan was unable to confirm the deceased’s name at press time Monday.
“We never name victims unless there is an investigational need or if someone is charged and it is going to be before the courts,” Slaney said Monday.
Asked by the Albertan whether the woman and the male knew each other, Slaney said that information was not being made public.
Town of Sundre Mayor Richard Warnock said the prompt RCMP response was reassuring.
“These things are never a good thing, whatever the root cause might be,” Warnock said Monday. “People do get concerned and I’m just very happy that the RCMP were able to react as fast as they could and got the situation as far as our citizens’ safety under control.
“No community big or small wants this type of situation. My condolences go to the victim’s family.”
