SUNDRE — Although the local library remained busy providing virtual services and programs during the pandemic lockdown, patrons seemed enthusiastic about the opportunity to physically step inside again.
“We had 43 people come through the door yesterday,” said manager Karen Tubb on Wednesday, June 24, the day after the facility officially reopened to the public.
“We heard ‘I’m so glad the library is open again!’ more times than we could count,” said Tubb.
After the government announced earlier this month the June 12 start of Stage 2 of the economic relaunch strategy, the Sundre Municipal Library’s board met by videoconference and carried a motion to reopen before the end of June as per the manager’s discretion.
The library is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m., as well as Thursdays and Fridays from 1-4 p.m. Registration is underway for the Sundre Forest Products Summer Reading Club, which starts July 6 and continues until Aug. 21.
Some new pandemic protocols include limiting the number of patrons in the building at one time, having separate entrance and exit doors, as well as applying hand sanitizer upon entry. Visit sundre.prl.ab.ca for more information.
“Although some of our procedures have changed, we appreciated the way our patrons very quickly adapted,” she said.
