SUNDRE — Students at River Valley School as well as Sundre High School will courtesy of volunteers continue receiving healthy snacks and breakfasts for the foreseeable future.

The Sundre Nutrition for Learning Society survived to keep providing students with fuel for school following its annual general meeting last week when board vacancies were filled up by members of the community.

Originally set for Wednesday, Dec. 8, the meeting ended up being held the following evening after a scheduling conflict came to light, said Angela Sandberg, the society’s president, adding there was still a good turnout.

“We do have a full board,” said a relieved Sandberg.

A number of board vacancies leading up to the meeting had left a level of uncertainty about the organization’s future.

“So, I’m pleased to say that yes — we had folks join us for our AGM and that were willing to join our board as members at large as well as the positions of vice president and secretary.”

The new members will be granted some time to get accustomed to the society’s ins and outs, with regular meetings expected to resume in the new year, she said.

Sandberg is also hopeful the close call helped raise awareness that the society remains active in the community, despite having not been able to maintain much of a public presence throughout the course of COVID-19 restrictions.

“The actual services at the schools are still continuing with the breakfasts five days a week at the high school, and then the snacks three days a week at River Valley,” she said
