SUNDRE – The holidays did not seem overwhelming for the Sundre RCMP but members were nevertheless kept fairly busy responding to a variety of calls.
Cpl. Courtney Harding, the Sundre RCMP’s acting commander, said the detachment received 38 calls for service from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.
Among the total call volume were two files pertaining to operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.
And on Dec. 24 at about 5 p.m., Sundre RCMP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver coming into town. Members located the suspect vehicle at a residence and determined the driver of the vehicle was not impaired, Harding wrote in an email to the Albertan.
And at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 27, police responded to a complaint regarding a vehicle that had been observed driving unsafely on Centre Street after reportedly passing on solid yellow lines. The vehicle’s registered owner was subsequently charged as a result of the investigation.
Additionally, there were six other non-moving traffic violations, one traffic collision, two warnings issued to two drivers over a failure to stop at a crosswalk, six traffic violations related to excessive speeds that resulted in three charges being laid while three warnings were issued, and one instance of a motor vehicle being taken without consent.
In non-traffic related files, police also received on Dec. 25 a complaint that free roaming horses were causing damage to private property northwest of Bearberry.
There was also a report of arson causing damage to property in a file the corporal called sensitive in nature and could not provide additional details.
Officers also aided Canadian police or provincial agencies with the Sundre RCMP executing multiple warrants for a wanted subject out of Cremona as well as another person wanted out of Calgary.
The corporal also reported one instance of mischief stemming from an incident on Dec. 28 when Sundre RCMP responded to a dispute in town between residents that did not result in any charges being laid, as well as two uttering threats against a person in files both described as sensitive in nature with no further details disclosed.
Other investigations included one file of fraud less than $5,000, one report of identity theft, and the theft of an empty flat deck trailer on New Year’s Eve.
On Dec. 31, police also received a complaint from a senior that an unknown suspect or suspects had stolen both taillights from their 2004 Dodge Ram truck that was parked in the lot at Pioneer Place. That file remains under investigation and anyone who knows something about this crime is encouraged to contact the department at 403-638-3675.
