Sundre Puzzlepalooza champs smash record set in 2024

Second annual event’s winners beat last year’s time by about half an hour

SUNDRE – The champions of the second annual Puzzlepalooza smashed the record set by the winners of last year’s inaugural competition.

Organized by the Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society and hosted at the Elks Lodge No 338 in Sundre on Sunday, Feb. 16 amid Sundre Winterfest 2025 activities, the puzzle competition pretty well packed the hall.

There were 11 adult teams, which could be up to four people, representing a total of 39 players. They had two hours in which to finish the same 500-piece puzzle.

There were also three family teams for a total of 11 players ages six and up with a maximum of six players per team. They had one hour to complete the same 350-piece puzzle.

“This puzzle had three different sizes of pieces to engage the younger ones and adults,” said Donny Krahn, GNP’s executive director, adding participants ranged in ages from 7 to 90.

The winning adult team completed their puzzle in a blazingly fast 50 minutes, beating last year’s winners by about 30 minutes. All three of the winning adult teams were able to finish the puzzle in less than an hour, said Krahn.

The winning family team was close behind with an impressive 55 minutes.

The top-three adult teams were, respectively, The Puzzled Gardeners, Piece Hunters and Four the Win, while the top-ranked family team was The Mittens, followed by Puzz Lightyear and The Brackleys.
