SUNDRE – The Sundre RCMP detachment lined up arrangements to introduce a local Coffee with a Cop initiative at the McDonald’s in town, the first of which was held on Friday, Feb. 28.

Five people attended, including Sundre-area resident Maurice Laferriere, who came out for the informal meet-and-greet to become better acquainted with some of the department’s members, Cpl. Courtney Harding and Const. Locky Matheson, as well as the municipality’s community peace officer Sam Zhao and bylaw officer Rob Plews.

Harding said the intent is to build a rapport with residents, with gatherings scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the same location on the last Friday of the month until June, after which the sessions may continue depending on the public’s interest.

Meanwhile, the first of several upcoming RCMP town halls is scheduled for March 5 starting at 7 p.m. at the Harmattan hall, where detachment commanders from Sundre, Olds and Didsbury will be present on behalf of Mountain View County.
