SUNDRE – Local Mounties have been kept busy responding to a multitude of calls for service throughout the first half of July.

From July 1 to July 16, members of the Sundre RCMP detachment reportedly responded to 119 calls for service, said interim commander Cpl. Courtney Harding.

The corporal said she cannot always provide additional context depending on the nature of certain kinds of calls, such as instances involving “some element of domestic conflict, conflict between family members or involving children, where it would be inappropriate to provide further details.”

But Harding nevertheless provided additional insight into numerous highlights ranging from traffic collisions and missing persons reports, to break and enters as well as theft over $5,000.

There throughout the reported period of time were 10 traffic collisions that Sundre RCMP officers responded to. None of these incidents resulted in serious injuries being reported with only property being damaged, she said by email in response to follow-up questions. Three of those files remained under investigation as of late last week, with some charges pending, she said.

There were also four thefts of more than $5,000. The corporal said police received on July 6 a complaint about a 2014 KZ holiday trailer with Alberta plate 4UZ073 having been stolen from Main Avenue West and added the unit had not yet been recovered.

In providing more information about four reported break-and-enters, she said police on July 2 received a report that an oil lease trailer in Clearwater County had been broken into.

“Tools, first aid kits and radio equipment were stolen,” she said, adding there was also 200 litres of diesel that was stolen from a parked semi truck and service rig but that no suspects had yet been identified.

Four instances of abandoned vehicles turned out to be benign.

“All vehicles were left and reported following a collision or a break down,” she said.

And “all parties were found” following three missing persons reports.

On July 11, Sundre RCMP received a report of a party of nine river tubers – two adults, seven minors – who were missing on Red Deer River, she said.

“Sundre Fire Department and search and rescue were activated,” she said, adding Hawcs was also dispatched.

“All assisting agencies were stood down as Sundre RCMP located all individuals safe.”

Two files that stemmed from impaired operation of a motor vehicle did not lead to charges, nor did two criminal harassment complaints that the corporal said she could not provide more context about.

No charges were laid in two assault files as “both were alleged assaults in relation to disputes between parties.”

One file of a reported sexual assault remains under investigation and the corporal was unable to offer further information, she said.

A report of possession of a weapon while prohibited upon investigation was deemed to be an unfounded complaint, she said.

Asked if one reported harassing communications involved email, text or social media and whether charges were pending, the corporal could not further elaborate but said the file is still under investigation.
