SUNDRE – After being cancelled for the past couple of years on account of pandemic-related public health restrictions, the science fair recently returned to River Valley School.
Grade 5 classmates Samuel Rozenhart and Lukas Feuser were among many enthusiastic learners displaying their projects and explaining the results to judges on the morning of Feb. 3 before the gym's doors opened that afternoon for public viewing.
The duo dabbled in the sweet science of gummy bears, and decided to test how different kinds of solutions such as salt water and lemon juice physically affect the candies. While the treats typically bloated out into larger sizes of various degrees, the gummies shrunk substantially in the salt water, confirming their hypothesis.
Their effort landed them a second-place finish in their grade category.
Students who placed have been invited to the Mountain View County Science Fair, which will be held March 4 in Olds.
