SUNDRE — Several members of a local search and rescue organization were recently recognized for their years of service.
Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, told council during the regular Nov. 9 teleconference meeting that the volunteers with the Sundre Search and Rescue Association had been presented with Alberta Emergency Services Medals.
The group, fully organized by and comprised of volunteer search and rescue specialists, has been operating in the Sundre area since the early 1990s as a grass roots response to an identified need for trained people to track down lost individuals out in the bush.
Nelson said administration sought to bring their names forward for recognition.
Roger Tetreault, George Jackson and Helen Jackson each received a 22-year award, while James Jackson, Connie Berling, and Bob Bewick all earned a 12-year award.
Council unanimously carried a motion to on behalf of the citizens of Sundre and area congratulate the recipients of the Alberta Emergency Services Medal, and to express thanks to each member, past and present, for their service to the community.
