SUNDRE - With winter sports seasons such as hockey and basketball cut short due to COVID-19 concerns, spring sports are now looking at the reality of a shortened or cancelled season.
April would normally be the kick-off for spring sports like soccer and baseball but with social isolation the norm for now, many are postponing or cancelling the season.
Sundre Minor Soccer Association president Amber Jenkins said registration had actually been up before the pandemic hit.
"At the end it actually worked out the same as last year," said Jenkins. "We had about 135 kids registered from aged two and up."
Due to COVID-19 measures in place to stop the spread of the virus, the Sundre Minor Soccer Association is offering refunds for the upcoming season, said Jenkins.
"If we do run it will be a pro-rated rate when we go," she said. "It would be nice to have something for the kids so they can do something. Right now we're just refunding everyone and listening to what Alberta Health Services says. When it's done we'll maybe do a drop-in or something."
Jenkins recommends checking out Youtube videos as a way for kids to learn new skills and possibly sharpen the ones they have during the down time.
"We will be refunding everyone in early April by cheque through the mail," she said.
