SUNDRE - A Sundre man has been charged with murder in the death of a fellow resident shot northeast of town.
Sundre RCMP were dispatched at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Jan. 25 after receiving a report of a man that had been shot in Mountain View County.
"Officers attended and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Life-saving efforts were attempted at the scene and the male was transported to local hospital where he was pronounced deceased," police said in a release.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit assumed carriage of the investigation and treated the death as suspicious, police said.
An RCMP update issued Saturday said 36-year-old Justin Goodhand had been shot at a residence northeast of Sundre.
The victim was pronounced deceased at hospital a short time later.
An autopsy was completed Friday which determined that the manner of death was homicide, police said.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes unit have charged Richard Mcculloch, age 36, a resident of Sundre, with one count of second degree murder in the death of Goodhand.
Mcculloch has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on Monday, Jan. 29.
No other suspects are being sought in the investigation, police advised.
As this matter is now before the courts, additional details of the investigation will not be provided.
