SUNDRE – A relatively small but dedicated group of roughly one dozen volunteers who take pride in their community recently rallied to tidy up litter scattered throughout a few parts of town.
Joined by the municipality’s new part-time peace officer Robert Plews, the team of volunteers who were mustered by community organizer Sarah Kennedy gathered at the Sundre Aquaplex parking lot on the morning of Saturday, April 20 before splitting up into smaller teams to cover more ground.
Among the areas covered were the Sundre Skatepark, the Aquaplex parking lot, a portion of the lane that runs adjacent to Sundre High School and the Sundre Pro Rodeo grounds, the Bearberry Creek walking paths, as well as Snake Hill and the Sundre Seniors’ Supportive Living centre.
Kennedy praised the participation of the new part-time bylaw officer, but added she believes the town’s bylaws should be revised in an attempt to mitigate the recurring issue of litter that has a tendency to accumulate more in certain areas.
Expressing pride in her community, Kennedy said the blitz was intended to keep Sundre looking nice, and she encourages anyone and everyone to play their own small part by picking up litter they might come across while walking around town.
