SUNDRE – Staying connected with the community recently became that much easier.

Courtesy of a new app launched by the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce that’s now available on all smartphone platforms, both residents as well as visitors hoping to explore the community on a mission to find things to do and places to shop and eat, will upon installing the software have available at their fingertips a wide spectrum of information about all things Sundre.

“It’s free to download,” Sarah Kennedy, the chamber’s president, said earlier this month in the lead-up to the launch.

Available on the app store by doing a search for Discover Sundre, the software features an extensive list of places in and around Sundre to eat, shop, visit, enjoy live local entertainment or even find sports for kids, with one special section dedicated to the town’s main event of the year, the Sundre Pro Rodeo, which this year took place June 21-23.

It also includes information about and links to non-profit community service organizations such as the Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society as well as local churches.

“We’re trying to have an app that’s available to the entire community that’ll become a community directory and tourism driver as well,” said Kennedy.

As a brand new app, the chamber remains open to suggestions on improving ease of navigation as well as adding groups, businesses or events to the directories.

“Everything is like two clicks of a button away,” said Kennedy, adding the software is fairly easy to update and add pictures to.

Users can also opt in or out of the option to receive push notifications, she said.

The app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices, was made possible courtesy of a package purchased by the chamber called App My Community, she said, adding the idea came about through a discussion with the chamber of commerce in Rocky Mountain House.

It features an intuitively easy-to-use interface that allows users to easily find information about the community.

Anyone who might be interested in learning more about or perhaps even joining the chamber is invited to email [email protected].
