SUNDRE – When life suddenly and unexpectedly leads to your small town’s main employer shutting down sending the local economy into a downward tailspin, start up a fashionable new line of custom-made skivvies.
That, in a nutshell, is the summary of a play called Knickers! A Brief Comedy that is currently being performed by members of Peak Theatre Players, who sought to deliver a relatable, uplifting tale of perseverance and surmounting adversity against the odds.
The Sundre-based group of theatre performers had recently been rehearsing for the play, which was written by Sarah Quick.
It tells the fictional tale of how three female friends from an off-the-beaten-path rural town called Elliston Falls work together with help from the municipality’s new economic development officer to breath new life into their community after the local paper mill that had been the main employer for a century closes down.
Although the Sundre Arts Development Centre was not quite packed to capacity on Friday, May 5 for the opening show, the house was nevertheless fairly full.
Performances wrap this weekend with a wind-up Mother’s Day matinee finale.
A raffle was raising funds with proceeds being allocated toward a project to replace the audience seating area’s floor.
