A total of $4,500 was raised for breast cancer research in just two and a half hours after the Wild Pink Yonder Posse took the east Sundre bridge hostage on Friday, Sept 2, 2011.
About 15 women, including Mayor Annette Clews and Sundre Chamber of Commerce President Sherry Tytkanch, donned decorated bras over their shirts and hit the bridge.
Some of the ladies squeegeed vehicle windows while others approached the stopped bridge traffic with donation buckets, and the results were astounding, said Sherry Tytkanych.
“Everybody was amazing,” said Tytkanych of the donors. “They told us what a great idea it was, and thought we were doing a good job for a great cause.”
Since the Town of Sundre rose to a challenge issued by Trochu to be this year's “Pinkest Little Town in the West” earlier this year, the Wild Pink Yonder Posse has raised a total of over $26,500 for breast cancer research, and is aiming for that total to exceed $30,000 by Oct 15.
Sundre's closest competitor in the “Pinkest Little Town in the West” race is the Town of Breton, which is currently sitting at just over $28,000 raised.
Sidewalk of Hope ribbons are still being sold through to October, and interested donors are asked to make their way to Tranquility Day Spa to sponsor a ribbon.
Should the Sundre team of Wild Pink Yonder raise enough funds and be crowned the “Pinkest Little Town in the West” for 2011, they will be granted a free fundraising concert by last year's winner, Trochu, said Tytkanych.
All money raised from concert ticket sales then goes to Wild Pink Yonder, which is allowed to put the funds toward whichever cause or charity it desires.
The decorated bras are being sold at a charity auction as a part of the Sundre Fall Fest, which is slated for Saturday, Oct 15.
