MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — The 20th annual Howard Smith Memorial ALS Team Roping event was held on Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Howard Smith Memorial Arena in Eagle Valley.
Nearly $6,450 was raised for the ALS Society of Alberta.
There was a total of 67 ropers who competed for a good cause, along with what organizers hailed as a fantastic turnout of spectators as well.
The Smith family extended its gratitude not only to all of the ropers who participated and donated their entry fee to the ALS Society of Alberta, but also the sponsors who supported the event.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, which is also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it in 1939, is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, eventually causing loss of muscle control.
