SUNDRE - The Sundre area was among three locations in Alberta to hit a record high temperature Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, the temperature rose to 29.0 C at the Sundre Airport on July 20.
That’s a new record for the date, the agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993.
The previous record high for the area on July 20 was 28.3 C set in 2007.
The following areas set a daily maximum temperature record on July 20, 2024 (temperature values given in degrees Celsius):
• Grande Prairie area: New record of 32.3. Olds record of 31.7 set in 1942. Records in this area have been kept since 1922.
• Hendrickson Creek area: New record of 28.4. Old record of 28.0 set in 1997. Records in this area have been kept since 1995.
The federal agency notes that the temperatures reported here have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographical area that were active during the period of record and may contain preliminary or unofficial information.
A heat warning is in effect for the for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area Sunday as a prolonged heat event continues.
