UPDATE: RCMP continue investigation into Tuesday's assault at Sundre Hotel cafe

SUNDRE - Sundre RCMP remain on the scene today of Tuesday's assault at the Sundre Hotel cafe.

In an update provide Wednesday morning, RCMP said they are expected to be there most of the day as they continue their investigation.

"There is no risk to the community," police said in the the release.

Police are investigating a serious assault that occurred Tuesday afternoon in which they confirm one person was taken via ground ambulance and one person via STARS, to a Calgary hospital.

The two people taken on stretchers from inside the Sundre Hotel cafe on Tuesday afternoon received “traumatic, life-threatening” injuries, Didsbury RCMP Staff Sgt. Stephen Browne said at the scene on Tuesday.

The patients were an adult male and an adult female.

Speaking outside the hotel, a woman believed to be a worker at the facility, said the parties were in a knife fight in the cafe.

Staff Sgt. Browne declined to say how the parties were injured.

Victims services personnel arrived at the scene at 5:30 p.m.

The entire hotel including the cafe, bar and liquor store were closed.

RCMP said an update will be issued once police finish at the scene and more information is gathered.
