This photo of what appeared to be a funnel cloud was taken at about 9 p.m. on Friday, July 1 looking east of Bergen. Dan Kulak, meteorologist with Environment Canada based in Edmonton, told the Round Up on Monday a tornado warning had been issued at almost 8:58 p.m. east of Bergen. The tornado warning was over in the area by 9:40 p.m., but remained in effect as the storm travelled east towards the Olds, Carstairs and Didsbury region. As of an Environment Canada summary report released Saturday afternoon, no serious damage had been reported despite some hail and several sightings of funnel clouds.

Sundre was walloped by a fairly brief but powerful hailstorm late on the afternoon of Sunday, July 3. By the time this photo was taken, the hail had already melted down to the size of big marbles from roughly the size of golf balls.
