SUNDRE — Approximately 200 young cowpoke contenders came to compete over the weekend in the Junior & Senior High School Rodeo, hosted by the Mountain View High School Rodeo Club.
The juniors, in grades 6-8, competed Friday at the Sundre Rodeo Grounds in a variety of disciplines ranging from poles, saddle bronc steer and tie-down roping to goat tying, ribbon roping, bulls and barrels.
The seniors, in grades 9-12, had their turn on Saturday and Sunday.
The adolescent athletes hailed from all over central Alberta, with several locals included in the mix.
The club is in District 2 of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association, and contenders were competing for points that will earn them a chance to qualify for provincials in the spring.
Tracy Wilson, club secretary, said the event has been running more than 10 years, and expressed profound gratitude to the lengthy list of local business sponsored who helped make the event possible.
