SUNDRE - Many bright, young minds from River Valley School recently excelled at the 2020 Mountainview Science and Technology Society Science Fair.
Hosted at École Olds High School on Saturday, Feb. 29, the annual science fair had 24 Sundre students presenting 16 projects.
Teacher Michelle Hindbo said they all represented their school very well.
Taking home bronze medals were:
• Grade 5 team Carmyn Hollar and Brooke Tobin with their project called Does the Five Second Rule Work?
• Grade 5 team Blake Johnston and Brooklyn Dziadek with Life Cycle of a Chicken
• Grade 6 team Kashlyn Saunders and Natalia Klis with Turning Milk into Plastic
• Grade 7 student Madison Chant with Boom!
Earning silver medals were:
• Grade 2 student Avery Gunderson with Horses Running Free
• Grade 3 team Brooklyn Butts and Emily Luzi with Solar Power
• Grade 4 student Liam Hengen with Picky Plants
• Grade 6 team Cally Sczesny and Kennedy Brooks with How Salinity Affects Buoyancy
The gold medallists were:
• Grade 4 student Kole Roberts with Bed of Nails
• Grade 6 team Cadie Caukill and Bailey Hengen with A Horse’s Sweet Tooth
• Grade 6 student Georgia Winters with The Science of Happiness.
Best of Fair for grades 7-9 went to Grade 7 team Austin Nixon and Austin Fuchko with Biogas Battle: Manure vs. Compost.
Hindbo said students who received a medal in the grades 5-8 categories now have the opportunity to sign up online for the Red Deer Regional Science Fair later this month at Red Deer College.
