Alberta family's extravagant Christmas display damaged by vandals put back together the next day

With help, the Ouellete family's outdoor Christmas display in Canmore, was put back together and a ride-on train was back up and working the next day after a vandal did thousands of dollars in damage on Boxing Day.

CANMORE – An outpouring of community support has touched a local family whose prominent Christmas display was damaged by vandals on Boxing Day.

The Ouellette family has been putting the display – which includes a rideable train – for the past 16 years and this is the first time the display has been vandalized. Damage was estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.

“There are not enough words to express the outpouring of support and offers of help. I could never thank everyone enough,” said Mirrah Ouellette in a Facebook post.

The Christmas display was up and running again by Friday night (Dec. 27).

“With offers of help to sew damaged inflatables and my daughters and I working together we have repaired or replaced the damaged inflatables, fixed damaged decorations, cleaned up. Savannah, my middle daughter was able to run the train for people of all ages.”

Ouellette said Savannah spent four hours mending and preparing the display.

She said one person has turned themselves into the Canmore RCMP.
