Camping reservations for Banff, Yoho, Kootenay launch in January 2025

Seats on the Lake O’Hara day-use shuttle will once again be done via a random draw, with applications for the draw accepted between March 3-24, 2025.

Parks Canada has announced its 2025 camping reservation launch dates for Banff, Yoho and Kootenay national parks.

For Yoho National Park, front country camping reservations open Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 8 a.m., while backcountry camping opens on Monday, Jan. 27 at 8 a.m., which includes Takakkaw Falls Campground.

Reservations for Lake O’Hara camping open on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8 a.m.

Seats on the Lake O’Hara day-use shuttle will once again be done via a random draw, with applications for the draw accepted between March 3-24, 2025 on Parks Canada’s reservation service website.

“Lake O’Hara is a fragile alpine environment,” states Parks Canada’s website.

“To preserve this unique environment and backcountry experience, Parks Canada’s reservation service allows for a total of 3,000 day-use visitors during the summer season.”

Yoho National Park has four front country campgrounds, including Kicking Horse Campground, Monarch Campground (first-come, first-served only), Hoodoo Creek Campground (first-come, first-served only), and Takakkaw Falls Campground (200 metre hike-in, wheelbarrows provided).

Kootenay National Park

For Kootenay National Park, front country camping reservations open Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 8 a.m. and backcountry reservations open Monday, Jan. 27 at 8 a.m.

Kootenay National Park has three front country campgrounds, where reservations are required, including Redstreak Campground, McLeod Meadows Campground and Marble Canyon Campground. More information here.

Banff National Park

Banff National Park is busy, often popular campgrounds are sold out, and day-use areas fill up early.

Front country reservations open on Friday, Jan. 24, while backcountry camping reservations open on Monday, Jan. 27 at  8 a.m. Make your reservations far in advance here.
