Emergency crews attend a collision on Highway 7 near Okotoks on April 27. EMS confirmed one fatality along with two people in serious but not life threatening condition.

A second death has been confirmed as a result of Wednesday's two-vehicle collision west of Okotoks.

Emergency crews responded to the crash just west of Big Rock Trail on Highway 7 on April 27 at approximately 12:45 p.m.

When they arrived on scene they found three occupants seriously injured and two vehicles badly damaged, said Deputy Chief Colin Sager with Okotoks Fire Dept.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria confirmed one person died on scene. Two others were transported to hospital by ground ambulance in serious, but stable condition.

A 59-year-old female was declared deceased at the scene, RCMP spoksperson Cpl. Gina Slaney confirmed in an April 29 phone call.

A second person, a 33-year-old male, passed away in hospital on April 28. Both were believed to be occupying a blue Honda Civic. The other vehicle involved was a white Cadillac Escalade.

The investigation, Slaney added, is still ongoing as collision reconstruction unit analyzes evidence.

"It would take some time for their investigation, with regards to whether charges would be pursued or not," she said.

The highway was closed between 48 Street and 16 Street West for most of the day as a collision analyst investigated the scene, but was reopened to traffic later that evening.

More information will be published as it becomes available.
