The Hugh Sutherland School choir is off to nationals next month

CARSTAIRS – The Hugh Sutherland School choir is off to the Canada West Music Festival in July after finishing first at the recent Alberta Music Festival Association’s annual festival.

“We are so honoured to be recommended to go to the Canada West,” said Michael Gouge, choir director and teacher at Hugh Sutherland in Carstairs.

“We have such an amazing choir and they worked hard.”

The choir qualified for the Alberta festival after finishing well at the Olds music festival earlier this year.

The choir consists of about 20 students in Grade 6-12. The group practises weekly.

Gouge and fellow teacher Allison Duane and community member Wendy Durieux work with the choir.
