CARSTAIRS - Carstairs Public Library is the recipient of a $4,000 grant from Mountain View Financial.
The grant and other funding from the Friends of the Carstairs Public Library will allow the library to purchase and develop an augmented reality sand table, which will be available starting in October, said library manager Megan Ginther.
"This sand table provides a way for young children and library patrons of all ages to interact with technology in an engaging and hands-on way," said Ginther.
"We will have interactive programs where users will explore concepts like ABCs, geography and shapes in an engaging and interactive way.
"We want to provide a unique experience that gets library patrons thinking about how technology can engage with more traditional learning experiences to create something new and exciting."
The sand table works using a projector and sensors mounted above the sand.
As users move the sand the computer registers this and responds to this movement.
"These types of displays have been used in museums and other libraries in major urban centres but are not often found in more rural communities," she said. "Our goal is to provide a quality interactive digital learning experience that families do not have to travel to experience."
