Carstairs-skipped team off to curling nationals

The national championship was scheduled to take place in Timmins, Ontario Feb. 14-20, but has been postponed

CARSTAIRS - The team skipped by Carstairs’ Myla Plett is off to nationals after winning the U-18 ladies curling provincial championships in Hinton last weekend.

The team defeated Team Booth from Red Deer 7-3 in Sunday’s semifinal, and Team Shannon from Lethbridge 8-2 in Sunday’s final.

The provincial championships started on Jan. 12 and wrapped up on Jan. 16.

Playing out of the Airdrie Curling Club, the team is skip Plett, third Rachel Jacques from Edmonton, second Alyssa Nedohin from Sherwood Park, lead Lauren Miller from Airdrie, fifth Chloe Fediuk from Edmonton, and coach Blair Lenton from Airdrie. The northern players practise in Sherwood Park.

Miller wasn’t able to play in the provincial championships, so Fediuk played lead for the tournament.

Plett and Miller have played together for five years, with Jacques joining the team last year and Nedohin and Fediuk joining this year.

The national championship was scheduled to take place in Timmins, Ontario Feb. 14-20, but has been postponed and an new time and place have not yet been announced, said Myla’s father Brad.
