MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A man previously identified as a person of interest and an individual police were looking to speak with in relation to the suspicious death of a local woman, was located earlier this morning by RCMP in British Columbia (B.C.).
Philip Toner, who police say has ties to both Alberta and B.C., was located earlier this morning by the Lake Country RCMP, police said in a release issued tonight (May 11).
"Major crime investigators continue to pursue all avenues of investigation into the suspicious death of Brenda Ware," states Acting Officer-In-Charge (A/OIC) Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the B.C. RCMP Major Crime Section. "There continues to be no known threat to public safety at this time."
Ware, 35, who according to her Facebook page was from Cremona and worked as a hair stylist in Sundre, was located deceased on Thursday, May 6 approximately 54 kilometres northeast of Radium along Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park.
“Brenda Ware and Toner were known to each other,” said Wijayakoon, in a press release issued on May 10 when police were initially looking for him.
“However, the nature of that relationship will not be released at this time,” Wijayakoon said.
The investigation determined Ware was known to have been in Didsbury before travelling to Kootenay National Park in B.C., where her vehicle and body were found. She had last been seen on Tuesday, May 4 by clients in Didsbury.
“If Philip hears, or sees this call for information, we ask him to contact the police of jurisdiction,” she said in the May 10 release.
Anyone who should see Toner was advised not to approach him and to instead immediately call 911.
