INNISFAIL – In the team’s homeopener in a new league, the Innisfail Eagles suffered their first loss of the regular 2024-25 hockey season.
The Birds took on the Westaskiwin Longhorns Saturday, Oct. 5 on home ice, losing by a score of 5-4.
“Some unlucky bounces proved to be the difference in this game,” the team said on social media after the game.
The Eagles hockey team has moved from its longstanding stint as a AAA squad in the fading two-team Chinook Hockey League to the AA level in the now nine-team North Central Hockey League (NCHL).
Innisfail was originally set to play its homeopener Sept. 28 against the Red Deer Rustlers after playing an exhibition game against Wetaskiwin Sept. 21 but the Rustlers folded forcing a revamp of the schedule.
The Eagles’ next game is on the road against the Lacombe Generals on Oct. 19.
The team’s next home game is Oct. 27 against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
