INNISFAIL - A leadership coaching program for school principals in the Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) division has been having lots of success with educators, says superintendent Kathleen Finnigan.
In a monthly report to the board of trustees, Finnigan said the program will positively influence student achievement and well-being.
“The feedback from the last quarter indicates a very positive response by our principals, with clear outcomes being demonstrated as evidenced in collaborative conversations with the school administration team,” she said.
“The program aligns with the work we have been focusing on for the past three years on the four pillars of instructional leadership which are setting the directions, leading learning, instructional walk-throughs and collective leadership.”
RDCRS includes schools in Innisfail and Olds.
In an effort to expand the leadership coaching program to assistant/vice-principals and directors in the division, the associate superintendent of human resources has been receiving coach training in the program.
“Coaching is a professional development opportunity that is growing in its application in the educational sector,” she said. “We are seeing the benefits and feel that expanding this model of leadership development will continue to yield positive results in the areas of leadership development and quality of teaching, both which will influence student achievement and well-being.”
In other division news, about 260 people, including parents and school staff, took part in a recent social networking safety event, she said.
The Paul Davis’ presentation covered current online topics such as technologies and trends, with cyberbullying, screen time and trending social apps, she said.
Similar presentations are being planned for Grade 6-9 students, as well as parents and staff in September 2022.
Finnigan said the division’s annual Faith Day will take place on Feb. 23.
“Our division will focus on the two characteristics of Catholic identity - community and tradition,” she said. “We have invited Dr. Troy Davies, (chief executive officer) of Catholic School Services, as our keynote speaker.
“He will be speaking to us about this passion, The Eucharist. In addition, there will be pre-recorded session that participants can choose to take park in.”
The board accepted the superintendent report as information.
