MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Chinook’s Edge School Division has reached a tentative collective agreement with its teachers, officials said.
The division and the Alberta Teachers’ Association reached a memorandum of agreement on Nov. 12. The agreement must still be ratified by both parties.
Chinook’s Edge board chair Allan Tarnoczi called the agreement good news for students.
“We are very pleased to see this happen,” said Tarnoczi. “We are very pleased to be working with our teachers and we look forward to continuing the good relationship that we have with our teachers.”
In a joint media release, Chinook’s Edge and the ATA said: “Representatives on both bargaining committees indicated the quality of the work in this memorandum of agreement shows the solid relationship between teachers of Chinook’s Edge and the Board of Trustees.”
Kurt Sacher is the Chinook’s Edge superintendent.
“We are very excited about it,” said Sacher. “We think it is a symptom of a very positive relationship.”
The agreement will be presented to Chinook’s Edge teachers on Dec. 9 and the board of trustees on Dec. 11.
Meanwhile, the Chinook’s Edge board has been presented with a new video surveillance administrative procedure, which sets out detailed regulations regarding the rationale for and the installation of video equipment in schools and other Chinook’s Edge facilities.
In other news, the board has made a motion to provide $700 support to both the Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival and the Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts.
