Innisfail RCMP are investigating separate incidents of copper wire theft that occurred in two rural locations in the Dickson area.

The first incident, according to RCMP, occurred sometime in the evening or early morning hours of June 18 and 19.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said a contractor for FortisAlberta discovered that three coils of copper wire worth about $2,500 were stolen on a leased site near Rge. Rd. 28 and Twp. Rd. 36.

On June 19, RCMP received another call about an overnight copper wire theft on a leased site near Rge. Rd. 25 and Twp. Rd. 35. Morrish said the estimated value of the stolen copper wire in the second incident is about $3,000.

Morrish said the close proximity of the two sites leads RCMP to believe the two crimes are related.

If anyone has information about these two thefts he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Highway tractor stolen

Police are still searching for the thief or thieves who stole a tractor that was being used to groom the ditches along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police responded to a call on June 21 that a tractor used by a contractor to mow ditches along the QEII was stolen overnight while parked near the freeway.

Morrish said police during their initial probe of the theft followed tractor tracks to Penhold and discovered the vehicle parked in a back alley off Rge. Rd. 280. He said half a tank of diesel from the tractor was missing.

Morrish said RCMP have no suspects yet in the theft and are asking anyone who might have some information on the crime to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

More trouble at The Cliffs

Innisfail RCMP are reporting renewed unwanted partying at The Cliffs of Gleniffer Lake.

The popular recreational spot, located at the north end of Rge. Rd. 23, continues to be a troublesome summer hot spot for local Mounties.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said the detachment is receiving multiple complaints of cutting through private properties, damage to properties, motorists driving through fields and sites left with excess litter.

“People are still actively going out there and partying,” said Morrish, noting local Mounties have targeted the site for enforcement over the past few years.

He said no trespassing signs have been posted in the area but problems still continue.

Morrish said Mounties will step up patrols and will issue tickets for liquor violations, trespassing and Criminal Code charges for any offences related to property.
