Generosity sends needy to fair

Innisfail Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is sending 40 needy people to Westerner Days in Red Deer thanks to ConocoPhillips.

Innisfail Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is sending 40 needy people to Westerner Days in Red Deer thanks to ConocoPhillips.

“We were able to receive 40 Westerner Days passes through the FCSS of Central Alberta,” said Tammy Oliver-McCurdie, manager of Innisfail's FCSS. “ConocoPhillips donated a larger number of passes and based on our numbers in Innisfail, we received 40.”

The passes cover parking, admission, one ice cream cone, one drink, one order of fries and a burger/hotdog.

“The passes will be given out at our discretion to clients and partners of Innisfail FCSS on behalf of our sponsors,” added Oliver-McCurdie. “It's nice to be able to give something like this to our community. Red Deer's Westerner Days is a great place to take your family and meet friends for a day of fun.”

She added the cost of going to Westerner Days can often be a deterrent for families and corporate generosity can be the difference between a family not being able to participate in the festivities and entertainment.

Oliver-McCurdie had one request for those who received a pass.

“Anyone going to Westerner Days on the passes is encouraged to take at least one photograph and send it to us, so we can pass it onto ConocoPhillips as a thank you,” she added.

Westerner Days will run from July 16 to 20.
