RED DEER – An Innisfail man is facing numerous Criminal Code charges with a Red Deer suspect following an alleged attempt to steal an ATM machine from the front entrance of a city gas station.
Red Deer RCMP said in a news release issued today (June 2) that shortly before 3 a.m. on May 18 Mounties responded to an alarm at a gas station in northern Red Deer.
After arriving on the scene police observed that a truck had smashed through the entrance of the gas station in an attempt to remove an ATM.
RCMP said two male suspects fled in a vehicle when Mounties arrived but the driver lost control in the getaway car and crashed into another business in the Northlands Industrial Park.
The suspects then fled on foot but were nabbed later on top of a nearby commercial building after Police Dog Services was called in to assist.
Ian Vanderlinde, 28, of Innisfail, faces 14 charges, including:
• firearms and ammunition-related charges
• mischief over $5,000
• break and entering
• failure to comply with a release order
• failure to comply with an undertaking
Justin Duperron, 34, of Red Deer faces 34 charges, including:
• mischief
• possession of property obtained by crime
• possession of break-in instruments
• break and entering
• flight from police
• possession of a controlled substance
• multiple failure to comply
• multiple possession of weapons offences
• firearms and ammunition charges
• multiple careless use of firearm offences
Vanderlinde and Duperron have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Red Deer provincial court on June 3.
