INNISFAIL – A woman from Penhold and a man with no fixed address are facing serious drug amd weapons offences following an Innisfail traffic stop.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a media release issued Tuesday that on April 6 when Innisfail RCMP members conducted the traffic stop it was discovered the vehicle had a mismatched licence plate.
Savinkoff said just prior to the traffic stop police observed a female walk away from the truck carrying a backpack.
The female returned to the vehicle as police were speaking to the driver, said Savinkoff.
He said the driver was found to be criminally prohibited from driving and he could not provide registration, insurance, or a bill of sale.
Savinkoff said the male driver and female passenger were found to be wanted on outstanding warrants and were arrested.
He said the male was found to be in possession of bear spray as well as money believed to be proceeds of crime.
Savinkoff said police located the backpack that was carried by the female passenger.
He said it was abandoned a short distance from the vehicle.
Savinkoff said a search of the backpack resulted in the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.
He said Scott McKay, 43, of no fixed address, is charged with the following offences:
• possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine;
• possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine;
• possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin;
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
• operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited;
• uninsured motor vehicle; and
• improper use of licence plate.
Savinkoff said a judicial Interim hearing was held for Mackay and he was remanded into custody.
He said his next court appearance is April 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
Savinkoff said Marissa Greenwood, 24, a resident of Penhold, has been charged with the following offences:
• possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine;
• possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine;
• possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, and
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Savinkoff said a judicial Interim hearing was held for Greenwood where she was released by a justice of the peace.
He said her next court appearance is April 24 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
