Tim Howard of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Innisfail (BBBSI) is looking forward to seeing his organization sparkle on Nov. 15 at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion.

“With the success of last year's SPARKLE Gala, the committee wanted to change the theme,” said Howard, executive director of BBBSI “This year, it is Little Steps Make Big Dreams Happen. For our organization we want to introduce some new fundraising initiatives in preparation for our long-term goal of reaching from border to border, east and west.”

The executive director noted they currently serve Innisfail, Bowden, Penhold and Spruce View and are looking at Olds as their next service area.

“To do that, we need to expand our budgets, to recruit more mentors, and to educate our member communities on what we can do for their youth,” said Howard. “Our success is dependent on our network and dedicated volunteers.”

SPARKLE will feature entertainment by Central Alberta recording artist Randi Bolton who will provide an evening of music, in addition to local motivational speaker Cody Davis, who at one point in his life was not expected to even move.

“Cody's story is amazing, and will make you never doubt the strength of the human spirit,” said Howard. “He is the perfect speaker for our upcoming event.”

Howard added the organization has applied to the Aviva Community Fund for district supporters to vote for their expansion plans in order to win from $5,000 to $100,000 for their project.

“Our project idea number is 19697 and we would like to encourage anyone who wants to see BBBSI succeed to vote,” said Howard, who anticipates a good response from the community. “This is just one more way to make us SPARKLE and grow.”

SPARKLE will start at 5:30 p.m. and the event is semi-formal. Tickets will cost $40 up to Oct. 15 and $50 until the date of the event on Nov. 15, and can be purchased at Baiers Stationery or the BBBSI office.
