Meth suspect nabbed in assault

Innisfail RCMP have laid 13 charges against a meth-using suspect teen allegedly connected to a potentially deadly incident that saw a rural homeowner being run over and his son rammed repeatedly by the fleeing suspect's stolen vehicle.

Innisfail RCMP have laid 13 charges against a meth-using suspect teen allegedly connected to a potentially deadly incident that saw a rural homeowner being run over and his son rammed repeatedly by the fleeing suspect's stolen vehicle.

Innisfail RCMP said on Sept. 20 at about 3:45 a.m. a lone adult male was caught by homeowners on their isolated rural property southeast of Red Deer attempting to steal gas.

The male suspect was confronted by the property owner while in a stolen white Honda CR-V.

The property owner attempted to apprehend the suspect, who stated he was just trying to take gas. He was high on methamphetamine, said the RCMP.

During the confrontation the suspect fled, accelerating away in the stolen vehicle with the property owner being dragged from the driver's side window for some distance and ultimately being run over, said police.

RCMP said other family members came to assist but the suspect fled the scene and was followed by the son of the property owner in another vehicle.

Police said the pursuit heading to Penhold led to a second tense situation on Highway 42 with the suspect vehicle ramming the son four times, causing considerable damage to both vehicles.

The suspect then continued to flee towards Penhold and the son followed, said RCMP. When the pursuit reached Penhold the suspect ran off the road and was blocked in by the son, said police.

As the suspect attempted to flee on foot, the son apprehended and detained him and called for police to assist.

The suspect was then identified as 19-year-old Raven Joseph Beaverbones. He was scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Sept. 22 to face13 charges, including assault with a weapon (motor vehicle), dangerous driving, trespass at night, theft, possessing stolen property, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, obstruction and multiple breaches of probation.

RCMP identified the property owners involved in the incident as Norm Scott and his son Richard.

Police said the father was transported from the scene to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre by his wife. He was treated and released later that afternoon. His injuries include severe road rash with significant scrapes to his chest, legs, shoulder and his chin. RCMP said there was a laceration to his eye and the loss of a fingernail on his right hand. As well, there was treatment for a possible concussion with some memory loss.

No other injuries are reported from the second collision.

Innisfail RCMP is continuing its investigation.
