A 200-year-old celebration from Germany has taken roots in Penhold and will be celebrated this Saturday night at the Penhold Memorial Hall.
Started in Munich, Germany in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage of a prince and princess, the festival, typically held over a two-week period, continues today.
Penhold’s celebration will only be for the night starting at 6 for cocktails followed by dinner at 7 p.m. for adults only.
“It started as a fun celebration to capitalize on and it just kind of stuck,” said Jade Prefontaine, of how Penhold came to celebrate Oktoberfest.
She said it’s her first year planning the event, but from what she’s learned, typically 50 to 100 people come out.
Mohave Grill will serve dinner with barbecue smoke pulled pork, oven roasted red jacket, potatoes with Cajun mayo, refried beans and corn on the cob on the menu.
Prefontaine said dancing will begin at 9 p.m. and she plans to have a couple of activities and games set up such as karaoke and trivia.
“This is my first year with it and I’m looking forward to it. I hope people come out and have a good time.”
