Pepper-spraying bandit robs gas station

Innisfail RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in locating the burglar responsible for brazenly pepper-spraying a Penhold gas station clerk and then stealing cash.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on April 7, a lone employee was confronted by a male assailant who forced his way into the store of the Centex gas station, located at 1211 Minto St.

“They (employee) heard the pump and then they didn't see a car, so that caused the employee to look outside and saw a lone male coming at him quickly,” said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler. “He attempted to shut the door and the assailant forced his way in there.”

Once inside the store, the bandit fired off his pepper spray.

“I don't know if the employee actually felt the effects of it, but definitely attempted to pepper-spray the employee,” said Eiler, adding the store employee did not suffer any injuries during the incident.

She said the bandit then left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. A police canine unit was called to the scene to track the suspect but he was not found, said Eiler.

She said the pepper-spraying male robber is described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slim build and wearing blue coveralls with yellow stripes in the back.

The RCMP continues to investigate.

If any citizen has any information about this robbery, he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through the Internet at www.tipsubmit.com

Burglary at D & R Drive-In

Local police are also probing a break-in on April 7 at the D & R Drive-In on Main Street.

Sometime between the evening of April 6 and early morning hours of April 7 a burglar broke into the business located at 4730 - 50 St. There was no one in the business at the time of the break-in.

“When they came in this morning they noted it had been broken into,” said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler. “There was a window that was pried open. They had a debit machine stolen.”

She said last week that RCMP are reviewing video at the business to get a better description of the suspect.

If any citizen has information about this break-in, he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through the Internet at www.tipsubmit.com
