INNISFAIL – Mounties have nabbed and charged a suspicious local man and woman after a high-speed and dangerous attempted getaway with a stolen vehicle throughout town.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Michael Heysa said at about 7:35 p.m. on May 30 local Mounties responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near the Innisfail Co-op cardlock.

Heysa said the attending police officers located the vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled from the police at a high rate of speed.

He said members of the public, witnessing the suspect vehicle driving dangerously throughout Innisfail, assisted local RCMP by providing updates of vehicle sightings.

At one point while fleeing, the vehicle caused damage to its underside leaving a trail of fluid in its path, said Heysa.

He said the vehicle, which was discovered to be stolen, was located shortly after in an alley between 45th and 46th avenues.

Heysa said two suspects were seen by a witness running from this location on foot.

The RCMP Police Dog Services was called in and the two suspects were tracked to a local motel where they were later arrested after trying to change their appearance, said Heysa.

He said as a result of the police investigation, Christopher Lyle Hannah, a 45-year-old male, and Christina Lynn Tiffin-Taylor, a 42- year-old female, both from Innisfail, have been jointly charged with:

• two counts of failing to comply with a release order

• possession of property obtained by crime

• two counts of flight from peace officer

Tiffin-Taylor is further charged with:

• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

• driving while unauthorized

She is also facing additional charges under the provincial Traffic Safety Act.

Both Hannah and Tiffin-Taylor are scheduled to attend Red Deer provincial court on July 14.
