Red Deer pair busted after Innisfail police pursuit

Accused facing multitude of drug and weapons offences

INNISFAIL – Two Red Deerians are facing numerous weapons and drug charges following a rural police pursuit that resulted in the suspects going off the road and into a ditch.

RCMP Cpl. Deanna Fontaine said in a media release issued today that Innisfail RCMP conducted a traffic stop on May 27 on Twp. Rd. 362 near Highway 816.

She said RCMP activated police vehicle emergency equipment and the suspect vehicle fled. Fontaine said the vehicle lost control a short distance later and veered off the road. The vehicle wound up in a ditch and both occupants were soon arrested, she said.

She said the suspect vehicle and its occupants were searched and police seized a loaded shot gun, ammunition, knife, drugs, stolen identity documents and drug paraphernalia.

Fontaine said as a result of this investigation Dillon Jarik Bristow, 27, and Evelyn Sadie Clare, 19, both from Red Deer, were jointly charged with:

• possession of a firearm without being the holder of a licence

• possession of a firearm knowing that they were not the holder of a licence

• occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

• possession of a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization

• unlawful transport of a firearm

• possession of a firearm knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence

• possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public

Bristow is further charged with:

• four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)

• flight from police

• mischief while operating motor vehicle (damage to fencing)

He is also with additional charges under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act.

Clare is further charged with:

• two counts of unlawful possession of identity documents  

• possession of stolen property under $5,000

• possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)

• possession of a controlled substance (LSD)

• three counts of failing to comply with conditions of release

• seven counts of breach of probation

• unlawfully transport cannabis in a motor vehicle (AB GLA)
 
Following a judicial hearing, both Bristow and Clare were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on May 31.
