Olds singer-songwriter Cindy Palin will hold a release concert for her album My Heart's Lament this Sunday at the TransCanada Theatre.
“My new album was recorded last year. We haven't had a release concert yet,” said Palin.
She is a classically trained pianist and vocalist who writes pop and contemporary folk songs inspired by her faith.
“The songs on the album are about life experiences: children leaving home, saying goodbye to parents, but also a really powerful message about positive words,” said Palin.
“I mention the impact negative words have and how we as singers-songwriters can use that platform to encourage others to use positive words.”
She started singing at a young age and got her first guitar when she was 12 years old.
“My parents were really great at getting me to different dance and music lessons,” said Palin.
“I became active in musical theatre. I started recording when I was 13 years old.”
She will be joined at the concert by three special guests at her concert: Allan Ellingsgaard, Kurt Driedger, and daughter Julie Palin.
“Ellingsgaard is a wonderful pianist and he is going to do some special numbers as well as playing some of my music, just so that I can actually look at the audience and not be stuck behind the piano all the time,” said Palin.
Driedger will play acoustic and electric guitars for Palin, while Julie will play a few songs on her own, followed by a duet with her mother.
“I am really excited about my daughter Julie joining us,” said Palin.
“I think she has been playing guitar since she was in Grade 5.”
Apart from music, Palin also blogs and is working on a book.
“I love to write. I think of a quote by Martin Luther, ‘If you want to change the world, take up a pen.' ”
