Legion member Chris Ferguson, left, shares a laugh with Calgary resident Will McCallum, who was the winner of a competition for the Ugly Stick — a traditional Newfoundland musical instrument fashioned out of household and tool shed items. Bottle caps, tin cans, small bells and other noisemakers adorn a mop or broom handle with a boot attached to the bottom to generate a distinctively unique sound. Several local businesses also donated gift cards for the event.
