On Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31, École Deer Meadow School will be presenting Alice in Wonderland at the TransCanada Theatre.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. performances. Tickets are currently available at the École Deer Meadow office for $10 each, or can be purchased at the door the evenings of the performances. All ages are welcome.
Grades 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to audition for the play back in September. Out of the 90 students who initially signed up, 35 were chosen for the roles.
Practices were held two to three times a week during lunch recesses. Additional practices were held after school, beginning in February.
Directed by teacher Dawnna Morgan and educational assistant Jennifer Rabchak, the production stars both Ceder Thorburn and Stella Brown as Alice.
Students have had a great time preparing for this production and are eager to share their hard work with the public.
Grade 5 student Myah Eluik, who plays the March Hare, has been playing roles in productions for three years at both the elementary and middle school levels and has thoroughly enjoyed her experiences.
"This one has to be my favourite," she says. "I love how the play comes together smoothly and we have so many chances to laugh at practices.”
Grade 6 student Julie Dunn, who plays Quatro, says, “Many of the kids in 'Alice' are extremely talented. Luckily, I was one of the 35 kids that were chosen to be in the production.”
“Each time the performance is 10 times better. Practice is a ton of fun and we laugh a bunch,” says Grade 6 student Sydney Van Ginhoven, who plays Tweedle Dee.
"At practices, we are all either laughing or shaking our heads,” says Grade 6 student Caitlyn Wood, who plays the Queen of Hearts.
