Lethbridge artist Karen Romanchuk will join forces with Didsbury's Kelly Tschritter for a singer-songwriter evening at Tracks this Friday at 9 p.m.
The two musicians met and became friends after Tschritter went to one of Romanchuk's concerts in Lethbridge last December.
“(Tschritter) told me that we should do a show together,” said Romanchuk.
“She came down here two weekends ago and we played Friday and Saturday together.”
During that weekend, the two artists practised together and got the opportunity to learn each other's music.
“I am looking forward to the concert,” said Romanchuk.
“Kelly has told me that Tracks is a really nice venue and that the people are very responsive.”
Romanchuk considers her music to be country-folk. One of her sources of inspiration when writing is American singer and activist Steve Earle.
“I listen to a lot of Steve Earle. I have read most of his books. I am not as upfront political as he is,” said Romanchuk.
“Mine are mostly love songs. They are mostly things I experienced or imagined.”
After learning to play guitar when she was six years old, Romanchuk became a professional musician at 18. She stopped touring in the late '90s to have her son, Dylan, who is also a promising musician.
“He is in a band called Shocked Standards. That band is on YouTube,” said Romanchuk.
“They were the only band in Lethbridge Has Talent last year. They have done really well.”
While her music career, professional life, and family life keep her really busy, she can always count on the help of her husband Darwin.
“He does a lot of the online things that need to be done, like putting the shows online,” said Romanchuk.
After the Tracks concert, Romanchuk and Tschritter are planning to play another concert together in Red Deer.
