A plot to steal a silver mine, a lost ring and facing the evils of the big city.All this melodrama, along with dinner and dessert, can be found when the St. Andrews Players present The Dirty Dredge of Cedaredge at the Bowden Lions Community Hall on May 2 and 3.The dinner theatre performance features a melodramatic comedy written by Vern Harden and performed by a cast of eight.“It's about a villain named Snydley Dredge. He's a villain and he's out to steal a silver mine from an unsuspecting, naive girl,” said director Mabel Hamilton.In order to take the mine from Claudia Bell, Dredge has to become engaged to her and give her a diamond ring but the only ring available belongs to his partner in crime, Velvet Wood.The play's hero, Toby, comes to town and falls in love with Velvet, complicating matters as the ring becomes lost.Toby's mother becomes involved and, well, we don't want to spoil the ending.“It's a melodrama and in the end everyone wins,” Hamilton said.The Bowden-area-based players have presented one-act comedic plays in the community for 12 years and this is the sixth year the troupe has performed dinner theatre at the Lions Hall.Hamilton said in the group's early years, performances just included dessert.Women in the community provide the dinner, she added, and tickets are $30.For that amount, Hamilton said, attendees receive dinner, a great performance and dessert.“We are renowned for our dessert bar.”She added all proceeds, minus a few costs for the production, go toward community causes.Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m.The show begins at 7:30 p.m.There will also be silent auctions both evenings.The Lions Hall is located at 2012 19 Ave.Tickets are available at the Bowden Reddi Mart at 2121 20 Ave., or call 403-224-3644 for more [email protected]
